Professor Walter Veith, highly educated scientist and reformed evolutionist, presents profound and solid evidence against the mainstream “old earth” view required for evolution to be possible.

I can’t take credit for this, I heard it in a fantastic sermon. I think it was a sermon by Ron Halverson that I listened to last year or so. I’m thinking it could be the most daring and powerful prayer a person can pray about themselves. If you really mean it, and really understand the full depth of what you’re saying, it can drastically change your life.  It’s a very simple prayer that’s easy to speak, but for most of us, it’s very difficult to pray this prayer.

“Lord, I give you permission to do whatever it takes to save me.  Amen”

But it means more than it seems.  Like this, the meaning might begin to sink in:

“Almighty God in Heaven.  At this moment, I give you full permission to do anything and everything necessary in my life and to me personally to save me from my own selfish and sinful ways.  Please do anything required to push me away from all evil ways and all evil thoughts, and toward goodness.  Lead me in whatever way is most effective, be it by hardship and trial or by blessing, to live in Christ, and die in Christ if need be.  Lord, bring me into Your Kingdom of eternal paradise, by any and every means that my stubborn soul needs to experience or endure.  Thank you, Lord, for your love.  In Jesus Name, Amen.

Now it feels a lot more serious.  God is almighty, so giving Him full permission opens the door to things we can’t even imagine.  By praying this, we might be asking God for a very difficult life on this earth.  We might be asking for many trials to purify us, or many hardships to humble us.  We might even be asking for loss of our most cherished things in this world, including our loved ones.  Of course, I am not saying that God will directly cause death and pain, but He might allow these things to bring us to a place where we can be saved.  But any of these things are worth eternal paradise, right?

However, more is required than to just give Him permission to take action.  We must be willing to accept what methods He might use in our lives.  This requires living in constant communication with the Lord, and relying on Him for strength and perseverance.

Are you willing to let God do anything in your life, to save you from sin, and bring you into Heaven?

Happy Thanksgiving everyone!  Whether you’re in the US or elsewhere, a Happy Thanksgiving to you.  A great day to be thankful to the Lord for the uncountable and amazing blessings He has given to all of us.  And most especially for the ultimate gift, which we can always be thankful for, His Son.

Have a wonderful day, wherever you are.

The Manhattan Declaration is a document written and signed by leaders of prominent Christian and Catholic denominations with a purpose to declare firm positions against abortion and gay marriage, and for religious liberty.

We, as Orthodox, Catholic, and Evangelical Christians, have gathered, beginning in New York on September 28, 2009, to make the following declaration, which we sign as individuals, not on behalf of our organizations, but speaking to and from our communities. We act together in obedience to the one true God, the triune God of holiness and love, who has laid total claim on our lives and by that claim calls us with believers in all ages and all nations to seek and defend the good of all who bear his image. We set forth this declaration in light of the truth that is grounded in Holy Scripture, in natural human reason (which is itself, in our view, the gift of a beneficent God), and in the very nature of the human person.

Update 2: An astute reader posted in the comments what the true meaning of this verse is. Acts 1:16-20 clearly explains why Psalm 109:8 was written. It’s a prophecy regarding Judas the betrayer. The “office” is that of one of the Twelve, and Matthias was the one who took his office.

Update: I’ve added more to the post here to clarify points, based on some of the comments.  Note that I am not an Obama supporter.  But I do stand up for correct use of the Bible.  Please read this whole post before posting a comment, your concern may already be addressed.

What does the President of the United States have to do with Psalm 109:8?  Apparently, many people are passing this around the internet, as a prayer of curse against President Obama.

“Let his days be few, and let another take his office.” – Psalm 109:8

By itself, it seems relatively harmless.  But take note of the next verse:

“Let his children be fatherless, and his wife a widow.” – Psalm 109:9

Using a single verse like this is dangerous for several reasons.  First, it’s taking a single short verse out of a very specific and detailed context, trying to use it in a way it’s not intended.  Secondly, it’s essentially praying for a person to die young (Because of the context).  Remember, when what is now the Bible was originally written, it wasn’t divided into verses.  This particular passage would have been written in ancient Hebrew which had no punctuation either.  Talking about these as “separate verses” without connection or context is simply inaccurate.  If we could take any single verse and use it as it sits alone, then we could justify just about any behavior we want.  Try Numbers 31:17 all by itself to see what I mean.

Additionally, this is not a good Christian attitude or thought process.  Here’s an important related bit.

27 But I say to you who hear: Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, 28 bless those who curse you, and pray for those who spitefully use you. 29 To him who strikes you on the one cheek, offer the other also. And from him who takes away your cloak, do not withhold your tunic either. 30 Give to everyone who asks of you. And from him who takes away your goods do not ask them back. 31 And just as you want men to do to you, you also do to them likewise. – Luke 6:27-31

Jesus clearly teaches two lessons in the short passage above which are directly relevant here.  1) If you consider President Obama to be “an enemy”, then you should love him.  That might be hard, but remember this: Love is not just a feeling, it is defined by your actions and behavior even when you don’t feel like being loving.  2)  The Golden Rule.  Jesus gave that to us.  Do you want people to pray for a curse on you?  Nobody of sound mind would answer yes.

Professor Walter J. Veith, formerly a staunch evolutionist, tells how study of evidence, personal experience, and reason caused him to realize that evolution is implausible and that the Biblical account of creation must be accurate.

This is a very powerful, real, and uplifting story.  Enjoy, and be sure to show it to your atheist friends!

Professor Walter Veith obtained his doctorate in zoology from the University of Cape Town in 1979. He believes that the theory of evolution does not provide a plausible explanation of our origins, and that the geological and paleontological data do not support evolution over long periods of time, but rather imply catastrophism, which is consistent with the Genesis account. He lectures internationally on this topic and has undertaken extensive tours to Europe, Africa, and North America.

Professor Veith’s research field is nutritional physiology, concentrating on the effect of modern animal husbandry on the incidence of disease transferal to humans. This highly controversial topic is of vital significance in view of the increase in epidemics such as mad cow disease. His research concentrates on degenerative diseases caused by incorrect nutrition and particularly diseases such as osteoporosis, arthritis, and cancer. Dr. Veith is also concerned about the impact of antibiotic use in producing a new breed of antibiotic-resistant bacteria, which are causing food poisoning epidemics around the world.

Pastor David Asscherick is an intensely logical and analytical preacher.  That’s not to say he’s a boring preacher, far from it.  This is a great sermon regarding the logic of spiritual revival.

The sermon starts eleven minutes in, if you want to get right to the message.

Many people doubt the Bible.  It seems too extraordinary that many of the miraculous events contained in the Bible could possibly be real.  It’s easy to dismiss it as a book of fairy-tales, fables, or legends.  But on close inspection and careful study, proof can be found that it really is a divinely inspired book.  Yes, proof. The Bible is full of many encouraging words for many situations.  No matter what we face in this temporary life, the Word of God offers comfort and encouragement to help us keep focusing on Jesus’ love.  I want to share a few great Bible promises that can bring comfort to those of us involved in intercessory prayer.
